Ecuadorian Labor Minister Yvonne Nuñez and Agriculture Minister Danilo Palacios submitted their resignations after the major electoral setback for President Daniel Noboa in the referendum held on Sunday.
Palacios issued a statement on Tuesday confirming his departure, a day after submitting his letter of resignation to Noboa, who had already seen how Nunes had also decided to leave her position as labor secretary, at a time when there was speculation about a mass departure of her entire cabinet after Sunday’s defeat.
Palacios bid farewell in a note published on his account on
Both Palacios and Nuñez left, confining themselves to thanking President Noboa and all the people who cooperated with them during this time at the head of their portfolios, without providing public details of the reasons that prompted their decision to leave.
Ecuadorians went to the polls on Sunday to express majority rejection of Noboa’s four proposals in the referendum. “No” was imposed in consultations on the return of foreign bases (60.65 percent), in the suppression of public financing of political parties (58.07 percent), in reducing the number of members of the Assembly (53.47 percent), and in calling for a Constituent Assembly (61.65 percent).
