The Pope begins his international tour with a six-day visit to Türkiye

Today, Thursday (11/27), Pope Leo began his first apostolic journey since assuming the leadership of the Catholic Church, on a journey that will continue until December 2. The Pope is scheduled to spend six days in Türkiye and then head to Lebanon.

They reached Turkish territory, where the Pope was received by the country’s authorities at the airport. In Türkiye, the itinerary includes a visit to the Mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, where he signed the Book of Honour, institutional visits and meetings with the authorities.

Furthermore, Pope Leo commemorates the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, a prayer meeting between Christian groups.

After the Turkish agenda, the Pope will head to Lebanon, where he will participate in “silent prayer” in the port of Beirut, where an explosion five years ago killed more than 200 people and injured 7,000 others. According to the Vatican’s Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Pope’s visit “will bring hope, peace and new momentum to Christians in the Middle East.”
