Spain’s resident population rose by 105,488 people in the third quarter of this year and reached 49,442,844 as of October 1, 2025, the maximum value of the historical series that began in 1971, according to the National Institute of Statistics’ continuous population statistics published on Tuesday.
The population growth is due to an increase in the number of people born abroad, as the number of people born in Spain decreased compared to the second quarter of the year.
Of the 49.4 million inhabitants, 39,617,578 were born in Spain (9,901 fewer than in the previous quarter) while 9,825,266 inhabitants of Spain were born abroad, i.e. 115,389 more.
