The streets are lit up this Christmas in Zamora

some 200,000 LED light points and twelve linear kilometerstwo more than last year, make up the Christmas lighting installed by the city council. The lights are mainly distributed over the shopping centre, the old town, the expansion and the main entrances to the city. Some of the main illuminated avenues will be Sancho IV and Alfonso IX Streets, Principe de Asturias Street and Sagasta Square. As last year, the Plaza Mayor will host one of the most photographed decorations, where the lighting bearing the word “Zamora” has been reinstalled, in the words of the Vice Mayor and Advisor for Economic Promotion and Citizen Protection of Zamora, David Gago, a “classic” that the City Council does not think to change.

The places intended for taking “selfies” with lighting are Via Viriato, which will have an open envelope; Fray Diego de Deza Square, where there will be reindeer you can put your heads in instead of their faces, and Maestro Haido Square, with a Christmas ball you can sit inside

Zamora neighborhoods will also be illuminated again in 2025 with some surprises compared to previous years. The illumination will reach San Isidro, San Lázaro, La Fajoada, Pantoja, La Alberca, Cabaniales, Sepolcro, San José Obrero, San Frontes, Pinilla, Los Blox and Vistalegre.

Illuminated arches in the streets

According to Gago, the current lighting contract, valid until Christmas 2027-2028, means doubling the investment allocated for festive decorations. In total, more than 200,000 lighting points will be illuminated during these holidays, distributed along a 12-kilometre LED line, two more than in 2024.

There will be 114 illuminated arches and five “Happy Holidays” signs also made using low-consumption LED and microLED technology.

Where will the Christmas tree be in Zamora?

Plaza Mayor is once again the place chosen to install the city’s large Christmas tree. It is a walkable decoration with a height of 17 meters and half a million LED lighting points. There the Romanesque capital will display its name, which will be possible thanks to the luminous letters mentioned above.

For the rest, Plaza Mayor will maintain the essence of last year, but to add dynamism there will be some differences, such as a change in music.
