“Secret Agent,” the Brazilian film that was chosen to compete for the Oscars in Brazil, was seen by about 274,000 spectators in its first days in theaters in the country. Comscore data indicates audiences over the past four days — between Thursday (6), when the film hit the national circuit, and Sunday (9).
The work, which won a prize at the Cannes Film Festival for its direction by Kleber Mendonça Filho and performance by Wagner Moura, is shown in more than 707 cinemas, in a total of 1,403 rooms across the country. The Brazilian production also had the largest audience this week in the country, surpassing “Predator: Wild Lands” (with 241,000 viewers) and “The Black Phone 2” (84,000 viewers).
Thus, the film already has more than 337 thousand spectators, because, according to data from the national film agency Ancine, “Secret Agent”, as of November 2, had an audience of 56 thousand people and an income of 1.36 million Brazilian reais, from the various pre-screenings of the film at the end of October, in about 300 theaters throughout the country.
Thus, the film established itself as one of the national productions that received the largest viewership this year in cinemas, behind “Homem Com H” (631 thousand); “Victory” (720 thousand); “The Magnificent Chico Pinto and Guayabera” (986 thousand); “I’m Still Here” (2.7 million) and “O Auto da Compadecida 2” (2.9 million).
Relatively speaking, the film “I’m Still Here”, directed by Walter Salles, who won the first Oscar in Brazil this year, occupied 767 cinemas when it opened on November 4 last year, and attracted about 580,000 spectators in its first week in theaters in the country, according to Ansin.
In total, the film with Fernanda Torres reached more than 5.7 million viewers in the cinema alone, before entering the Globoplay catalog at the beginning of 2025.
“Secret Agent” is also showing in cinemas in Portugal and Germany, co-producing countries with France and the Netherlands, but there is still no audience data. It will be released in theaters in the United States on December 5, after a more limited release on November 26, and in France on December 17.
