Agustin Gonzalez, the young man who was shot and killed in Tolosa/Reedes
What started as a debate over the intersection of 118 and 521 ended in tragedy. In the past few hours, yesterday morning, a 22-year-old man was shot and killed in Tolosa, in a new episode of violence that is shaking this sector of our city once again. The victim was identified as Hugo Agustin Gonzalez, who died after being shot at least twice and taken to Gutierrez Hospital, where doctors were unable to save his life. The horrific incident, classified as a murder, is being investigated by the UFI No. 11 of La Plata, led by Public Prosecutor Álvaro Garganta, with the intervention of the Court of Guarantee No. 5, headed by Marcela Garmendia.
As spokespersons revealed to EL DIA, it all started after 11:30 p.m. Sunday, when neighbors called 911 to report an injured boy in the street. A police car tried to approach, but was forced to retreat due to the hostility of the place: an agitated crowd threw objects and bottles at the police officers, forcing them to retreat and call for backup. Minutes later, the hospital announced the admission of a young man with a gunshot wound, who died despite attempts to revive him.
His father recognized the victim, who appeared before the police, looking shocked. The man indicated that his son was in the street that night with his friends, and provided the contact for one of them, a 21-year-old young man, who told the authorities what the minutes before the attack were like.
According to his testimony, which is already part of the file, he saw Gonzalez at the age of 118 and 521 years old talking with a young man called “Mullah.” At that moment, three big motorcyclists appeared. Upon noticing the group’s presence, Al-Mullah ran toward his home, while Gonzalez remained where he was and argued with one of the new arrivals. In the middle of the verbal exchange, Gonzalez allegedly grabbed a visor hat from the motorcyclist, who warned him: “You don’t know who you messed with,” according to testimony gathered by investigators.
The attacker left but returned minutes later. He arrived again on a motorcycle, this time armed, and fired at least four shots, two of which directly hit Gonzalez. The young man fell to the ground while the attackers fled at full speed. A neighbor put him in his own car and took him to the hospital, although it was too late: the bullets were fatal.
Hours later, scientific police officers visited the crime scene and seized four 9 mm capsules, in addition to combing the area in search of security cameras.
The neighborhood remained in a state of shock throughout the early morning, with rumors, crying, and patrol cars coming and going looking for witnesses. Some neighbors admitted that they heard the explosions, but few of them dared to speak out. In parallel, investigators are trying to confirm the identity of the alleged attacker and whether the nickname mentioned by the witness corresponds to a known criminal in the “La Favela” area, a sector known for its intensity of conflicts.
Gonzalez’s killing joins a long list of violent incidents recorded in recent months in La Plata and its surrounding areas. In this case, 18 homicides have already occurred in the area so far in 2025, many in the context of neighborhood disputes or personal settlements.
In Tolosa, neighbors are growing more concerned by the day. They say the nights have become a land of motorcycles, screams and gunshots. “Every so often something happens here, and it always ends badly,” summed up a man who lives a few blocks away. The investigation is continuing, while relatives and friends of the murdered young man are demanding justice. It should be noted that at the time of issuing this edition there had been no arrests.
Messages of pain and farewell on social networks
As news of the crime spread, the pain began to multiply on social media. Friends, family and acquaintances of Agustín expressed themselves through the platforms with messages of farewell and anger over his death, which many still do not fully understand. Candela, a person close to the victim, wrote: “Agus, how we will miss you. Good child, educated worker. In this life everything is paid for. You will always be there. May you rest in peace and send a lot of strength to your family, they need it.” Meanwhile, Florencia, who identified herself as Agustín’s girlfriend, shared a photo (displaying this note) and expressed: “I will love you all my life. You are and will always be my fat man,” while in another post she demanded justice. “Let justice be achieved,” he said. At the same time, it was learned that during this day his remains would be buried at 1:530.
