On the sixth day of an intense search through the mountains and around his home in La Llaniza, in the Asturian Council of Teneo, the Civil Guard found Tomás Rodríguez Villar, “Tomasín,” in good health in a bar in Opona, in the same municipality where he resides. A call from a neighbor when he saw him buying groceries alerted him and informed 112 Asturias.
Thomasin had gone to the institution early that morning, quietly and oblivious to the great mobilization of personal and human resources that had been brought into play in his research.
The individual has been alerted
A spokesman for the Civil Guard of the Asturias Region/Command confirmed to elDiario.es Asturias the location of “Tomasin”, around 11:00 this morning.
112 Asturias informed the Service Operations Center (COS) of the Civil Guard of Asturias of telephone calls from a person who indicated that he had “just seen the missing person in the town of Opona, in Teneo.” At that time, Thomasin was buying food.
A customer recognized him
When this person recognized him, he asked him to “accompany him,” but he refused, so he called 112 Asturias.
Immediately, a notification was sent to the Civil Guard at the Navelgas Centre, which moved a patrol to Opuna to verify the authenticity of this evidence, which was confirmed shortly after.
Six days of intense research
He was searched for six days around his home in the village of La Laniza, following a disappearance report submitted by one of his relatives to the Civil Guard last Tuesday due to the lack of news about his whereabouts. At that time, his family feared he had been involved in an accident.
An ending that was as unexpected as it was surprising for the emergency services themselves, given that Thomasin had gone shopping as a free person since he left an Asturias prison in 2017 after serving a six-year prison sentence imposed by the Asturias regional court after a jury found him guilty of murdering his brother Manuel, whom he killed with a pellet gun he made himself in 2011 because he claimed he had abused him.
Mobilizing the media
In these six days of search, a drone unit, a helicopter, specialized tracking dogs, specialists from the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Groups (GREIM) in Meres, the Citizen Security and Nature Protection Service (Seprona) and firefighters were deployed around La Lineza.
Searches were carried out in the mountains and around the house. The search area was divided into four sectors centered on the southwestern slope towards the town of Tinio. A sweep of approximately one and a half kilometers of land was also carried out, using night thermal vision from one of the firefighting drones in Asturias, as well as from La Llaniza to La Espina, in the Salas Council. Meanwhile, oblivious to all this, Thomasin was in perfect health and living a normal life.
