
Tom Ford is preparing a new film about the world of opera, in which Adele will make her debut as an actress. It is an adaptation of the novel Crying to the sky (1982) Written by Anne Rice, produced and directed by Ford, who is also the screenwriter. The film revolves around castrato, men who undergo child castration to preserve their shrill voice, through the history of a Venetian nobleman and a singing maestro.
The group includes, in addition to the British singer, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ciaran Hinds, George MacKay, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany and Owen Cooper. They are joined by Daniel Quinn Toye, Hunter Schaeffer, Thandie Newton and Lux Pascal.
This is not the first time one of Anne Rice’s more than 40 novels has been adapted for the screen. In 1994 the movie was Interview with the Vampirein the year 2023 series Witches of Mayfairy Talaska: Secret Orderwith the first season just released. With more than 135 million copies sold, Rice is one of the most popular fantasy writers of all time.
Ford’s new film – which was introduced to the US Film Market through his production company Fade to Black – is in pre-production in London and Rome, and will begin rolling quickly, where filming is expected to begin, with a fall 2026 release date.
The fashion designer also directed two films that achieved great success. One man (2009) starring Julianne Moore and Colin Firth, nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor. Nocturnal animals (2016) won the Grand Jury Prize in Venice, and Michael Shannon was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards.
