The release of the Prime Video series Tremembé has revived interest in the crimes that shocked the country. One is the killing of Marcus Matsunaga, who was shot and dismembered in 2012 by his wife, Elise Matsunaga.
Marcos was 41 and was CEO of the family company Yoki, one of the biggest names in Brazil’s food sector. He grew up in the Parque Continental neighborhood, studied in the best schools in the area and graduated in Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV).

When he met Elise, Marcus had been married for six years and had a daughter. The two met through a website where she provided services as a call girl. The couple married under a partial community property system, but ended up being disinherited after the murder.
The couple had a daughter who was one and a half years old at the time of the crime. Marcus was a gun collector and would travel with Elise to practice shooting. In December 2012, she was sentenced to 19 years in prison for murder, because she made it difficult for the victim to defend herself.
