Madrid, November 30 (European Press) –
US President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that he had a phone conversation last week with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, although he did not want to provide details about it.
In response to a question about the news of the call that was published by several American media outlets, he said: “I do not want to comment on it. The answer is yes.”
He added: “I wouldn’t say it was good or bad. It was a phone call.” The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal published a report on the conversation.
Trump also pointed to his Saturday social media post in which he declared that he considered Venezuelan airspace “closed,” which was interpreted as a possible signal of a US attack.
But Trump rejected this argument. “Don’t draw conclusions from that,” he asked. The warning is due to the fact that “we consider that Venezuela is not a very friendly country.”
Trump announced that the airspace “over and around” Venezuela had been completely “closed” in another step toward a possible ground invasion of the country in the same week that the North American president clearly spoke of his intention to enter Venezuelan territory to begin arresting drug traffickers, especially considering the buildup of his military personnel around the region.
The US President announced on his platform, “Truth Social,” “To all airlines, pilots, drug traffickers, and human traffickers: We ask you to take into account that the airspace over Venezuela and its surrounding areas will remain completely closed.”
