The Administrative Claims Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB) has ruled in favor of Real Club Náutico de Palma (RCNP) against the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB), in a landmark ruling recognizing its right to expand the port. … The duration of the port’s concession, ensuring the continuity of one of the most emblematic maritime institutions in the Mediterranean.
The decision, issued this week, upholds the lawsuit brought by the RCNP against the APB’s decision not to respond to the request submitted in 2019. The ruling notes that the club has the right to “extend the deadlines and extend the requested concession,” according to the agreement reached between the parties in March of the same year.
This ruling represents a strong endorsement of the management model of Real Club Náutico de Palma, internationally recognized for its work in sports training, promotion of social values, maritime culture and organization of major events such as the King Mapfre Cup or the Princess Sofía Cup, among many others.
TSJIB considered that it had proven that the original RCNP contract had been legally converted into a public concession, following the changes made to the State Ports Law, and that the club met all the requirements for the extension, in exchange for new investments aimed at improving the public space of the port.
The RCNP received the news with great relief. Its president, Rafael Gil, announced that he felt “very satisfied and relieved” by a decision that would restore stability to the entity after many years of uncertainty. “Despite the situation we have experienced since the end of the franchise in December 2022, we have continued to work for the sport and the city. “This club has been and will continue to be a real access platform to the sea,” said Gill.
The leader also wanted to thank the many signs of support he has received during this process from institutions, members and citizens, stressing that the club “will maintain its commitment to social sailing and the development of the sport, with even greater strength.”
With more than a century of history, Real Club Náutico de Palma is now experiencing a new phase of stability and growth, strengthening its position as an international reference for sailing and leisure boating, and as a fundamental pillar of the maritime identity of the Balearic Islands.
