Madrid, November 28 (European Press) –
British intelligence services on Friday pointed to the “difficulties” faced by Russian air defense systems in confronting Ukraine’s “growing capabilities” to launch drone attacks and hit targets “effectively” despite Russian advances as part of its invasion, which began in February 2022.
Hence, they reported, Kiev reported on November 5 a drone and missile attack on a Russian base located around Donetsk airport – in eastern Ukraine and under Russian occupation – “used to store, manufacture and launch” drone devices against Ukrainian territory.
They explained, according to a statement published by the British Ministry of Defense on its account on the social networking site
Along these lines, they pointed to damage to the drone launch infrastructure, fuel depot and weapons depot, before specifying that “reports from open sources indicate that a thousand Giran-2 aircraft were stored at the base,” a type of drone used by the Russian military.
British intelligence services stated that “Russia was going to begin during the summer to build this infrastructure for drones and launch points around the airport to support the increase in the scale of these operations against Ukrainian targets.”
Therefore, they emphasized that these types of attacks “underscore the difficulties faced by Russian air defense systems in protecting military sites located within the scope of increasing Ukrainian capabilities with regard to unmanned aerial devices, especially near the front line.”
“Moreover, it underscores Ukraine’s continued ability to conduct effective, combined air strikes against Russian targets, even as Russian forces continue to exert pressure on multiple points along the front line,” they concluded, referring to the advance of Russian forces into several eastern Ukrainian provinces.
