Understanding Kim Kardashian’s clinical condition

In the latest episode of the seventh season of The Kardashians series, which was shown last Thursday (11/27), Kim Kardashian (45 years old) obtained a new result related to her nervous health. One month after the aneurysm was diagnosed, tests showed decreased brain activity.

The evaluation was performed during consultation with neurologist Daniel Amin, who provided details of the examination. The specialist ruled out the risk of Alzheimer’s disease, but highlighted areas with low activation, which were described as “holes” in the mapping, especially in the frontal lobes.

This area is important for stress control, decision making, and focus. “The front part of your brain is less active than it should be. This makes it difficult to manage stress, which doesn’t help when you’re studying and preparing for tests,” he explained.

The caption refers to the California equivalent exam, which Kim recently attempted and failed. She plays a lawyer in the series Tudo É Justo, and is still searching for a license to work in real life.

What does low brain activity mean?

To understand what this type of result represents, experts should be consulted before Capitals Explain that interpretation depends on the type of examination performed and the clinical context.

Low activity is usually identified on functional tests, such as positron emission tomography (PET) or functional MRI, says neurologist Sergio Jordi, MD, a member of the American Academy of Neurology, who practices in São Paulo. “These methods can measure metabolism and brain activity in different regions,” he says.

According to him, many conditions can cause decreased activity like that observed, including degenerative diseases, sleep deprivation, infectious processes, trauma, substance abuse, and prolonged stress.

“Chronic stress can hamper brain function and cause feelings of sluggishness, memory lapses, and decreased concentration,” he explains.

The doctor points out that when the cause is not degenerative, the condition is usually curable with an appropriate approach. “Interventions are personalized and may include lifestyle changes and multidisciplinary support.”

Neurosurgeon Julio Pereira, from the Syrian-Lebanese Hospital, highlights that functional tests are not part of the routine of young and healthy people, and that in most cases they are used in research or in neurocognitive diseases.

“Today there is no standardized test to evaluate the brain activity of an asymptomatic person and make clinical decisions based on that,” he says.

He points out that results like those described in the program do not usually predict future risks. “Even the doctor who evaluated Kim did not suggest any clinical consequences,” he adds.
