After approval by the Senate, the US House of Representatives will vote, on Wednesday (11/12), on the agreement that could end the lockdown in the country. With this, the longest shutdown of federal government services in American history may end.
The crisis in the United States of America
- Since October 1, the US government has been in lockdown. This is because the North American Congress has not reached a consensus on the annual budget.
- In practical terms, this meant the federal government was paralyzed, which directly affected the operation of many of the country’s public services.
- As a result, thousands of federal employees will not receive pay or will be fired.
- The current strike is the longest in US history, lasting 43 days.
- Previously, the longest shutdown occurred between December 2018 and January 2019, during Donald Trump’s first term, lasting 35 days.
On Monday (10/11), Republican and Democratic members of Congress reached a consensus on the agreement, which was approved in the Senate by a vote of 60 to 40.
The proposal provides for an interim budget package that would enable the federal government to fund through January 2026, in addition to a broader budget package for the Legislature, the Department of Agriculture, and programs targeting America’s veterans.
The text was approved in the Senate after five weeks of negotiations between Republican representatives and centrist Democrats.

To support the measure, Democratic Party-linked politicians have called for reversing federal layoffs, retroactive pay that was suspended during the shutdown and a vote next month on expanding subsidies under the Affordable Care Act — which Republicans blocked.
If the US House of Representatives approves the bill, it will go to President Donald Trump, who is expected to approve the measure and reestablish the US civil service.
