A major panic occurred this Thursday afternoon on the Buenos Aires-La Plata highway, where a car caught fire while driving at km 23, heading towards the capital, Buenos Aires. The incident occurred at noon, and despite the dramatic nature of the incident, there were no casualties.
According to road safety sources, the accident occurred in a Renault Sandero car, and its driver noticed in time the mechanical failure that led to the outbreak of the fire. He was immediately able to stop the car on his shoulder and get out of it under his own power, completely unharmed.
Within minutes, the fire expanded and almost completely consumed the car. Members of the Quilmes Fire Department’s Mobile 20, led by Officer Inspector Leonardo Patelli, worked extensively at the scene to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from affecting other vehicles traveling on the highway.
Despite the speed of the response, the losses were complete: the car was destroyed. An AUBASA tow truck removed the remains of the car to restore traffic to normal. After the operation, the road was completely cleared and traffic returned to normal.
Jurisdiction over the incident was assigned to the 1st Police Station of Quilmes, where the corresponding measures were carried out.
