A B-52 bomber, two fighters and a US operational control aircraft flew within 65 kilometers of Venezuela, as shown in images from the tracking website FlightRadar24.
The overflight occurred on the same day that the United States designated the Sun Cartel a terrorist organization, accusing Nicolás Maduro of leading a drug trafficking network, without providing evidence.
Meanwhile, a show of force was held at Roosevelt Roads Naval Base in Puerto Rico. Part of the US military deployment in the Caribbean is preparing to launch a new phase of operations, under the pretext of combating drug trafficking.
The military maneuver between the coast of Venezuela and the island of Curacao coincides with the cancellation of international commercial flights after the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) recommended “extreme caution” when flying over Venezuelan territory. Dozens of flights departing from Caracas were cancelled. All flights to Venezuela have been suspended.
