Santos is going through a difficult phase in the final stage of the Brazilian League and is looking for the strength to respond against the relegation zone. After the 3-2 defeat to Flamengo at the Maracanã, coach Juan Pablo Voevoda pointed to the Santos fans as one of the main factors in achieving the positive results.
– When the match is over, they will evaluate us and see if we played a good match, but during the match I want the Villa fan to lead us forward. When I was a visitor, I felt like a fan and said “it’s complicated in Villa”. After that, the fan has the right to evaluate how the team responded. We are in a time where we have to be together, the players need the fans and I need them. It’s a fan base that will help us, because they know the difficult times we’re going through. This is what I can say about our fans and I will demand the players to be extremely committed, not to give up, and to keep fighting.
Even with the defeat, the coach emphasized the reaction and the two goals scored in the last minutes to reduce the score to 3-0 against Flamengo, calling for the strength of will from the team so that the next rounds will be a battle.
– I want this from the players, commitment. You have to go and fight, that’s what it is. I want that from my players and I demand it. He added: “Today I feel pain, and he suffers, as the players suffer, and as the fans suffer, but Santos will not give up, and will continue to fight.”
Currently, Alvinegro Praiano has not achieved a win in five matches, with two draws and three losses. After facing Palmeiras and suffering a 2-0 defeat, the sequence shows Flamengo, Palmeiras – who are playing a game in hand – and Mirasol, all present in the group of four.
In 17th place, the club is preparing to face Palmeiras at Villa Belmiro Stadium. The match is scheduled to be held next Saturday (15) at nine o’clock in the evening.
