In Qatar, McLaren drivers monopolized the front row of the starting grid, on a track where overtaking was difficult, but they saw the possibility of the first and second positions collapsing at the beginning of the race. Verstappen, in his 70th victory, started well and took the first corner ahead of Norris. Performance was key on a track where overtaking is complicated. The four-time champion had already said that he would bet on a strong start to the race.
