After Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), mentioned in the decision on the preventive detention of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), a violation recorded by the surveillance system around midnight on Saturday (22/11), the electronic ankle bracelet he used was taken for examination at the National Institute of Criminal Medicine of the Federal Police (PF), which is considered a reference in Latin America.
The evaluation is carried out by experts in the field of microtrace and electronics, who evaluate whether there is a violation or attempt to break the device, in addition to identifying possible tools used and checking for any damage, alteration or interference in the operation of the equipment.

Advanced equipment
- The laboratory is one of the best equipped for microscopic archaeological analysis in the world. The device that enables the perfect analysis of minute traces contains machines worth millions in Brazilian currency. The chamber contains a multifunctional system that provides a variety of analytical tasks to extract the maximum amount of forensic evidence in the shortest possible time. The device is called Tracking Station/Modular Tracking Evidence Inspection System.
- The second piece of equipment, called X-ray microfluorescence (Micro-XRF), allows the sample composition to be characterized using X-ray microfluorescence and 2D area scanning to map the elements of any type of sample.
- The third piece of equipment is a high-resolution digital microscope. The machine allows you to obtain high-resolution, high-magnification and multifocal images, as well as perform image montage.
- A scanning electron microscope with an energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (SEM/EDS) detector enables high-resolution images, as well as an integrated energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (EDS) detector for elemental analysis.
In addition to being a tool used by the Federal Police to solve crimes, the laboratory is also used as a subject of study by students at the University of Brasilia (UnB), in addition to helping the Federal Government solve investigations such as gold and diamond smuggling, product counterfeiting, and others.
