We cannot consider that foldable devices, which have two screens and when unfolded look like a tablet, are available to everyone. However, it is clear that 2025 has given us two of the best devices in this category to date: a … Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Honor Magic V5. In fact, Samsung’s proposal has just received an award for the upcoming CES 2026. We’ve been with them for a couple of months and here we explain which one is the most interesting in case you’re thinking about making the move and getting one.
In hand, both are insanely thin when compared to 2024 models. The truth is that the dance of tenths between one and the other is pure marketing, it is practically imperceptible. What is notable is the ergonomics, as Samsung keeps a square body, while Honor opts for rounded corners and a camera module that protrudes about 7mm, which defines its thinness. Undoubtedly, the Magic V5 is one of the slimmest foldable devices out there, but if we consider the details of the unit, The balance is lopsided in favor of the Z Fold. Because in addition, carrying a cell phone in your pocket may be somewhat uncomfortable.
If we take resistance into account, Samsung has finally released IP48 dust protection. On the other hand, the Honor has an IP58/IP59 rating, which means it can survive a direct stream of water. In favor of the fold we can say that we have been using it for months; During that time, we will have dropped it dozens of times, but it is still intact.
Regarding the screen, The resolution for both is similarBut it is in the brightness where the essence is found. Although the Honor would be the big winner on paper, in practice the Fold 7 shines more and better, both on the cover and the inner panel, and it lowers the threshold more successfully for nighttime reading.
Uneven performance
In performance, it is not equal despite the fact that they both install the 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite, which is the best in Android processors. The Galaxy Fold 7 comes tuned and works best for short tasks. But in long-duration tasks, such as gaming, the Magic V5 tolerates temperature better and thus provides more sustained performance. In short, the Fold 7 is a runner and the V5 is a marathon runner. For the most common people and everyday tasks, the Fold 7 is a winner. but If what you want is a device that can handle anything thrown at it, you might be better off opting for the Honor foldable.
Then we will find big differences in the camera. Samsung makes the most of its 200MP sensor in the S25 with reliable and stable night video that holds itself very well. On the other hand, the zoom and wide-angle remain unchanged from the Fold 5. This is exactly where the Honor V5 dominates, in the 64MP periscope at 3x and in the ultra-wide angle.
In terms of battery, in numbers, we have a clear winner, the 5820 mAh Honor with 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging from 0 to 100% in about three-quarters of an hour. Samsung keeps its 4400mAh 25W charger, which is already a few years old and hasn’t improved. But still, despite this difference, with normal use, the Fold 7 is better optimized and offers better real autonomy. It’s at a time when street honor takes over.
Without pen or pencil
Samsung removed the S Pen after six generations to subject the Fold to the slimming we saw. Not only is Honor keeping the stylus, it’s also enabling it on the inner display and on the cover, which is exactly what the Fold community has been asking for for years. For those who take notes or draw, the choice is clear. We’re not big fans of the pen, but for those who do, the Honor wins on this point.
As for the Android layer, we opted for the Fold’s One UI 8, which is a stable, polished, and predictable interface that promises many years of support, something Samsung typically offers. Meanwhile, Honor MagicOS 9 proposes more ambitious multitasking ideas, such as the three-app limitless mode, but the impression is that the UI is less Western. Honor also includes more “bloatware” pre-installed, which is completely unnecessary for most users, and can be a bit annoying at first.
Who wins?
It is very difficult to say that both are great stations. If you want to play it safe, and are looking for great support in Spain and proven functionality, the Galaxy Fold 7 is the best choice; But if you’re looking to use a stylus, more balanced cameras, and more experimental software, the Magic V5 might be more interesting. Finally, in terms of pricing, the Samsung phone starts at €1,898, while the Honor phone is somewhat cheaper: €1,699.
