On November 18, 1928, Mickey Mouse appeared on the big screen. This is because on this date, the film “Steamboat Willie”, known in Brazil as “Willie do Barco a vapor”, “O vapor Willie” or “Guilherme, the helmsman”, premiered. 97 years later, the little mouse is still one of the most iconic and popular characters of all time.
At the beginning of his story, Mickey was not the kind and friendly personality we know today. This is because Walt Disney created him as an angry, smoking and drinking mouse. However, its creator changed his behavior, seeking to please a larger audience.
Mickey Mouse’s first name choice was not what we know. Initially, the animator wanted to call him Mortimer, an idea quickly refuted by his wife. Furthermore, he was not Walt Disney’s first choice, despite being his most famous character. This is because his first thought was Oswald, the Lucky Rabbit.
In fact, Mickey Mouse’s fame went much further than its founder expected. In 1978, Mouse became the first animated character to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Years later, his beloved Minnie also secured her place.
Speaking of Minnie, are they a couple or not? The answer is yes! In 1933, Walt Disney confirmed Mickey Mouse’s relationship with Minnie in an interview. “In his private life, Mickey is married to Minnie. What that really means is that Minnie, for screen purposes, is the protagonist,” the animator revealed.
