The Los Angeles Lakers’ managerial move caused repercussions in the NBA this Wednesday. Superstar LeBron James has officially been assigned to the South Bay Lakers, the team’s main affiliate in the G League, the NBA’s developmental league.

The news, published by ESPN journalist Shams Charania, does not mean a demotion or cut, but rather is the final step in the rehabilitation process for the 40-year-old player, who is recovering from a sciatic nerve injury.
LeBron missed the start of the season due to back pain, which coach JJ Redick initially described as “nervous irritation in the glutes.” Further tests confirmed the diagnosis of sciatica, a condition that causes pain that extends from the spine to the leg.
According to Charania, the appointment is of a logistical and technical nature, allowing the number 23 to resume rhythm play and participate in intense 5v5 training, something rare in the main team’s routine during the regular season.
“The Lakers’ LeBron James was assigned today to the South Bay, the NBA’s G League affiliate, and will participate in his first full practice of the season, including 5-on-5 matches, as he prepares for a potential debut,” Charania reported.
LeBron is expected to return to the courts later this month, if he does not develop any new symptoms.
