Eleven films are premiering in cinemas in São Paulo this week. Among the highlights is “Wicked: Part 2,” a continuation of the hit film in 2024, with Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. In addition, the movie “The Survivor” with Glen Powell, based on the book of the same name by Stephen King, was brought to the big screen.
The capital, São Paulo, hosts two festivals throughout the week: the 16th Brazilian-French Film Festival, formerly known as Varilux, and the 1st Women in Football Film Festival, at the Football Museum.

Love and Death in Giulio Reni

The documentary delves into the life and work of the musician from Rio Grande do Sul. Through testimonies, Rennie narrates his path.
Between two women

Homo argentum

There are 16 short films ranging in length from 1 to 12 minutes. Together they offer a funny and critical reflection of the current Argentine context.
Jay Kelly

Movie star Jay Kelly (George Clooney) and his agent (Adam Sandler) are forced to confront the past. When confronting their relationships, they think about the legacy they want to build.
Jujutsu Kaisen – Execution
Jujutsu Kaisen: Execution. Japan, 2025. Director: Shota Goshozono. 90 minutes. 18 years old.
It collects the final season of the anime and shows the first two episodes of the new season. It follows the Shibuya Incident, a massive conflict between evil creatures against Yuji Itadori and his jujutsu sorcerers. After the bloody battle, Noritoshi Kamo, the cruelest wizard in history, turns ten colonies in Japan into hotbeds of curses.
Sky falling
Brazil/Italy, 2024. Director: Eric Rocha and Gabriela Carneiro da Cunha. 108 minutes. 10 years.
The documentary, inspired by the book of the same name by Davy Kopenawa, a Yanomami leader, depicts the crucial riahu funeral ritual, a ceremony to erase traces of deceased relatives.

What does this nature tell you? South Korea, 2025. Director: Hong Sang-soo. Starring: Kwon Hye Hyo, Park Mi Soo, Ha Seung Guk. 108 minutes. 14 years old.
After leaving his girlfriend at her house, a young poet spends his day with his lover’s family. The meeting features conversations, food and drinks.
Sarah Bernhardt, Divine
Sarah Bernhardt, La Divine. France, 2024. Director: Guillaume Nicolau. With: Sandrine Keberlein, Laurent Lafitte and Amira Cazar. 98 minutes. 14 years old.
In Paris in 1896, actress Sarah Bernhardt was at the height of her fame. She is considered the first international star and an icon of her time, as she challenged the social norms of the time.
Silvio Santos is coming

It deals with the presidential candidacy of Silvio Santos (Leandro Hasom) in the 1989 elections. It also follows the appointment of a journalist (Manu Gavasi) to investigate the broadcaster to prevent political attacks.
Survivor

Events
The First Women’s Football Film Festival
The first edition of the festival will be held at the Football Museum, between November 27 and December 1, and 27 films will be shown in its program. Highlights of the selected films include “As Primeiras,” a feature-length documentary about the first players in the Brazilian women’s national team, and “De Virada,” which traces the paths of women who transformed national football.

16th Franco-Brazilian Film Festival
The festival, formerly known as Varilux, brings together 21 French films. A highlight is the film “Sonho, Logo Existo”, directed by and starring Pierre Richard, winner of the edition award. The film follows the relationship between two men from different generations. It takes place in cinemas such as Cinesystem, Reag Belas Artes, Cine Marquise and others.
