Caetano Veloso, 83, received the news of his 2026 Grammy nomination while still in his pajamas, awakened by Paula Lavigne to the surprise that has stirred Brazilian music. The album “Caetano & Bethânia Ao Vivo,” recorded on the brothers’ joint tour, will compete in the Best World Music Album category, culminating in an artistic encounter that spans generations and cities.
Early on, Maria Bethania sent an audio recording to her brother, celebrating the sweetness and familiarity of someone with whom he shared not only the stage but more than six decades of musical history.
“It’s funny that they recognize our work based on popular music, especially your repertoire as a composer,” Bethania said. “I was happy. Are you happy?” “Awesome…our show has a lot of music, right? Great recommendation for us. Congratulations, sis,” Caetano answered proudly.

The video posted by Paula Lavigne, showing the emotional exchange between the two, immediately went viral. Yvette Sangallo summed up the overall feeling: “The greatest!” Daniela Mercury added: “Must arrive at the Grammy Awards!” It seems like the entire country is rooting for the duo who have reinvented their own legacy by taking the stage together once again.
The tour, which began in August 2024, visited cities such as Brasilia, São Paulo, Salvador and Porto Alegre. In the repertory, classics from both professions shared space with surprising readings – among them, “Fé”, by Isa, which turned into a statement of resistance that became one of the highlights of the performances.
The nomination puts Cayetano and Bethania alongside names like Burna Boy and Anushka Shankar in the world’s major music awards. The awards will be presented on February 1, 2026 in Los Angeles.
This bright phase of Cayetano’s career can be seen very soon. The artist arrives in Brasilia on December 11 as an attraction at the Estilo Brasil Festival, bringing precisely that combination of memory, creativity and live power that characterized the Grammy-nominated album. The show promises to be another chapter in this special phase – which is celebrated at home and abroad.
