Delays are expected in Argentine air transport this Monday due to the strike
ANAC workers will hold assemblies to discuss wage and labor demands at the country’s 21 main airports
Argentinian air passengers will have complicated journeys this Monday, as interruptions to national and international flights are expected, given the announcement by workers from the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) to hold a series of assemblies at the 21 main airports.
The measure was requested by the State Workers’ Association (ATE) to protest the serious deterioration in salaries and working conditions of ANAC employees.
Union leaders claim that ANAC workers have lost 45% of their purchasing power in the last two years under the presidency of Javier Milei, as the sector’s collective agreement is not open to negotiation.
ATE’s secretary general, Rodolfo Aguiar, warned that the current situation “threatens the safety of all flights”. It noted that budget cuts, labor flexibility and lack of sufficient staff have drastically reduced control capacity, leading to non-compliance with international safety audits (such as those by ICAO). Workers demand the reopening of collective bargaining, salary improvements, permanent positions and increases in supplements and bonuses, arguing that aviation workers are “stressed and fatigued by the multiplicity of tasks”.
In this context, passengers are advised to anticipate additional waiting times and pay attention to official announcements regarding possible flight changes.
ATE held the Libertarian Government responsible for any delays or inconveniences that occur during the assemblies, stating that the crisis can only be reversed by immediately hiring sufficient staff and resolving the salary deterioration.
