Yes, the Nintendo Switch 2 is backwards compatible with the Nintendo Switch, but there are still some games from the 2017 console that don’t work properly on the new Big N hybrid.
As the months went by, after working in depth with each developer, nintendo was able add more backwards compatible games from your previous consoleenjoying each new Switch 2 update.
The last surprise was Nier Automata: The End of Yorha Edition, the excellent port of Yoko Taro’s game, which already runs smoothly on the Nintendo Switch 2 through backwards compatibility.
But there are more surprises. If we take a look at the new Switch game compatibility page, it states that There is an additional title that already solved your problems.
This is Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition, the latest version of the sequel to Chrono Triggerwhich launched on Nintendo Switch (also PS4, Xbox One and PC) in April 2022.
In fact, you can now enjoy this remaster of Chrono Cross on your Nintendo Switch 2 without any problems, thanks to the latest version of the console’s firmware.
Another JRPG from Square Enix is now compatible with Switch 2
Since its launch on June 5, the Nintendo Switch 2 has offered physical and digital backwards compatibility with Switch games, but it is not successful in all cases.
One of the titles that presented compatibility errors was Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Editionspecifically when starting the game and also with some technical defects.
Fortunately, we can now say that the Chrono Cross remaster fWorks perfectly on Switch 2as mentioned on Nintendo’s compatibility page:
”Previously identified issues have been resolved with an update”, indicates the page, dated December 2, 2025, and the compatibility seal with Nintendo Switch 2.
In addition to Nier Automata and Chrono Cross, other games that also resolved your compatibility issues are:
- DOOM + DOOM II
- Guardians’ Tales
- Skies above
- Orvalho Island
- Super Mega Baseball 4
- time spinner
There’s still work to be done, as some games still don’t run perfectly on the Switch 2. For example, we have two well-known cases that Nintendo is still working on.
They are Resident Evil 4 (the original) and Blade of Darkness, Switch titles that has progression and save errors when running on Switch 2.
At least Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is now fully functional on Nintendo Switch 2, as well as Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
