We are in the last month of the year in which Chrono Trigger celebrates 30 years; a celebration that, despite Square Enix said it would celebrate with “new projects”it didn’t crystallize into a remake.
A new edition of the soundtrack, shows and a poll about the popularity of the characters They form the entire celebration that the Super Nintendo classic has ever had. But what about the game?
Yuji Horii, director of Dragon Quest and screenwriter of Chrono Trigger, feeds the rumors again with his latest statements…But let’s hope he doesn’t need to retract it again.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is the remake of the third installment of the legendary JRPG saga with designs by Akira Toriyama, which serves as a prequel to the first two games.
Yuji Horii is not allowed to talk about the Chrono Trigger remake
In a special KosoKoso video podcast, Horii seemed very nervous in response to questions about a likely Chrono Trigger remake.
When they suggest whether the commemorative events indicate that there will be a new version of the RPG, the creative is blunt: “I can’t say anything about this matter.”.
“You shouldn’t ask me about that! If I say something, they will scold me”adds; while executive Kazuhiro Torishima guarantees (jokingly) that the remake exists.
In a way, it’s normal for Horii to be upset. The last time you talked about Chrono Trigger, confusion led to the understanding that he had affirmed the existence of the remake; something that was later denied.
However, why do you say that “you are not allowed to say anything”? The most comfortable thing for him would be to resolve the matter, and guarantee you don’t know anything about a remake.
Horii’s latest statements have (once again) sparked speculation; especially when The deadline for the game is about to expire.
Chrono Trigger is in a very similar situation to Final Fantasy IX. Another Square game that is celebrating its anniversary; specificallyturns 25 in 2025.
Just like the time travel RPG, FF IX limited its “celebrations” to special content for other games. And this despite the remake existing… Or it should.
Years ago, It is insisted on the existence of a new version of this Final Fantasy IX; a game that, despite leaks, remains unannounced. Much less, confirmed.
There is one last possibility: the remakes of Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IX (or one of them) will be presented at The Game Awards 2025. Stay tuned: we will narrate the event live.
