The new adventure of Judy (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick (Jason Bateman) in Animal City follows in the footsteps of recent hits like Moana 2 and Inside Out 2 for Disney, but takes them further with very promising expectations for the coming weeks.

In 2025, only two films have broken the US$1 billion barrier: the Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 and the live action of Lilo and Stitch. Although Avatar: Fire and Ash aspires to sneak into the club, maybe Zootopia 2 Do this sooner if you maintain a good pace for two or three weeks.

Zootopia 2 is second only to Marvel’s crown jewels

This historic weekend for Zootopia 2Driven by the good reviews the film has received from critics and the public, it is great news in a year in which the box office is not particularly good for high-profile productions.

With the mark left, Zootopia 2 is ahead Fast and Furious 8 ($541.9 million after launch) or Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (528.9 million), placing it in fourth place in the ranking of films with the best opening weekends in history.

At the helm of the Walt Disney animated film are Spider-Man: No Way Homewhich reached 600.5 million in 2021, Avengers: Infinity War (640.5 million) and the madness of Avengers: Endgamewith 1,223.6 million in its first weekend.

Part of the success of these films is due to a detail that is not normally taken into account: they all also premiered in China during their global release. Being the second largest film market, it is a boost that helps establish this ranking.

We’ll see where the race ends. Zootopia 2 at the box office. For now, the animated film that takes us back to the wildest and craziest city couldn’t have gotten off to a better start.
