08: “Dead people are already appearing in Utiel,” he writes at 11:25 p.m.

Feijóo sent this Wednesday three letters to the judge of Catarroja who is in charge of the criminal investigation into the 229 deaths caused by the dana of October 29, 2024. The documents contain the WhatsApp sent by the president of the Valencian Community at the time.

According to his own story, Feijóo is the one who broke the silence. The PP leader contacted Mazón before eight in the afternoon, “after learning through the media about the deterioration of the situation in Valencia”, according to one of the documents to which EL ESPAÑOL had access.

Restless, the leader of the PP sent him “a message of solidarity” and offered to make himself and “the party organization” available. Mazón did not respond until nine minutes later, at 8:08 p.m. It was their first contact that night.

The trip to Cecopi

The first contact at 7:59 p.m. and the subsequent contacts took place during the minutes in which Mazón left the Palau de la Generalitat to go to the Emergency Coordination Center of the Eliana, where the Cecopi was celebrated. He arrived there at 8:28 p.m.

The alert to the population was sent at 8:11 p.m.something that coincides in time with these first messages exchanged with Feijóo in which he informed him that “it’s getting worse every minute”.

A significant detail: while Mazón warned the leader of the PP about the progressive complication of the situation, the Generalitat had already requested the activation of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) for the entire province of Valencia at 8:30 p.m.

In this document sent by the presidency, there was a section of “damages and consequences” who warned of the existence of “evacuated, deceased, trapped and injured”.

Information on deaths was therefore now included in emergency files.

What Mazón knew

Mazón tried to call Feijóo, but he He couldn’t take care of him, given that he was “at an institutional event.”. According to what was communicated by the leader of the PP in another of the writings, the Valencian baron called him to obtain the contact of the president of Telefónica, José María Álvarez-Pallete.

This conversation was also reflected in the list of calls that Mazón contributed to the commission of inquiry into the damage in Les Corts. This document contained four appeals to Pallete, which was highlighted in communications that night.

At 9:44 p.m.Mazón sent a strong message: “I was calling you on Pallete’s cell phone. We can’t work without a phone number.” Immediately afterwards, he added: “I have already spoken to him.

A minute later, 9:45 p.m.came the most telling statement: “We’re overwhelmed, we don’t know what’s really happening But we have dozens of people missing and I can’t confirm them. »

Below is a new message that showed his vision of the night to come: “Long night ahead”.

Communications continued in an increasingly worrying tone. The public WhatsApp between Feijóo and Mazón shows the knowledge that the Valencian had of the scale of the tragedy.

HAS 23:22 hours, Mazón wrote: “But they put in place a crisis cabinet that is worthless. Bah.” Then he informed Feijóo of his efforts: “Yes, I spoke with Sánchez, Montero and the defense and the interior so that they have possible troops on pre-alert for tomorrow.”

The situation in the cities was catastrophic: “The problem now is that We can’t even enter many cities with people on the roofs dying of fear.

HAS 23:24 hours, Mazón warned of the arrival of the UME: “An hour ago. But by delegation at the moment We have what we need, which is currently the case. At three in the morning at the earliest. Eternal night to come.”

The horror is total

A few minutes later, the rudest messages arrived.

HAS 11:25 p.m. hours, Mazón wrote to Feijóo: “We haven’t made it public yet but deaths are already appearing in Utiel. Many more will appear. A fucking disaster “It’s going to be chaired.”

At 11:26 p.m.: “there will be dozens for sure”.

Feijóo received at 11:29 p.m. Mazón’s last message that evening: “We are working on it. Thank you Presi.”

The last communication ended like this, after four hours of exchanges which showed an exponential growth in knowledge about the extent of the tragedy.

That night, the president of the Generalitat appeared for the second time around 12:30 a.m. hours from the Cecopi headquarters to confirm, for the first time publicly, that they have died. At that point, he didn’t need any further information.

However, Mazón had already informed Feijóo an hour before on the existence of the deceased.

At 9:45 p.m., he informed him of “dozens of people missing”.

At 11:25 p.m., he tells him that “dead people are already appearing in Utiel”.

The context provided by Feijóo

Feijóo clarified in his letter sent to the judge the meaning of his entire performance that evening. “Given that I will appear as a witness on January 9 I will be able to provide any clarification deemed necessary regarding the required communications,” he said.

To provide this context, Feijóo explains to the judge that his first message was sent to Mazón, “after learning from the media the worsening situation in Valencia“. And that he did it “to send my solidarity and make the organization and myself available for whatever I might need.”

The conversation that followed, according to his story, was constant.

“I am sending you a message of encouragement (…) I am interested in the state of the population, I ask him about government involvement. and the provision of aid and troops,” says Feijóo.

In the same document, he continues his story before the judge: “I ask you when do you expect DANA to give in, I suggest traveling to Valencia“.

And finally: “I send you a final message of encouragement in such a situation.” and I remind you that it is important that the population is informed and that this is coordinated with the mayors of the affected populations.

The last communication with Mr. Mazón that night was at 11:29 p.m. “The information I received from that day on was the same as that managed by the institutions and whom I met through the Generalitat”, specifies the president of the PP.

Telematics declaration

The popular leader’s third writing is to formally ask the judge that his testimony as a witness take place on January 9. by video conference. In the text, Feijóo “respectfully comes to request from this section that my statement as a witness takes place by videoconference – or by another similar telematic system -“.

The popular president thus invokes the possibility of appearing by videoconference, a usual procedure fully recognized by the Criminal procedure law.

Feijóo’s intention is “cooperate fully with the investigation”. He provided the documents “voluntarily”, clarified the chronology and offered to broaden his explanations before the judge, according to the sources consulted around him.
