According to police sources, agents of the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of Elche denounced a 49-year-old man for various offenses committed in the capture, marketing, traceability, labeling and environmental control of red shrimp. The events occurred on December 5, while the Civil Guard was carrying out inspections in the vicinity of the port of Santa Pola.
Apparently, during an inspection in the urban area of the municipality of Alicante, officers located two people purchasing red shrimp in a warehouse where the owner stored large quantities of the product. without meeting legal requirements for marketing. As detailed by Benemérita in a press release, the investigation revealed that the owner of the warehouse was also responsible for a fishing boatwhich directly linked the irregularity to fishing activity.
Likewise, during the inspection, several boxes of red shrimp were found, some fresh and others frozen, which did not comply with the regulations in force because they had not been presented for first sale at the market; not having been declared in the logbook; lack of labeling; and lack traceability, among others. Furthermore, the warehouse manager could not prove that he had authorization to store this type of product.
Due to these events, the corresponding sanction files were processed and sent to the Maritime Fisheries Section of the Ministry, to the Public Health Region and to the Santa Pola City Hall.
