Geovanna Proque da Silva, 21, arrested for killing her boyfriend and one of his friends, in the early hours of Sunday (28/12), allegedly committed the crime motivated by jealousy, a witness told the São Paulo Civil Police.
The crime took place around 3 a.m., Rua Professor Leitão da Cunha, in Campo Limpo, south of São Paulo. The young woman chased and hit the motorcycle on which Raphael Canuto Correa, 21, and Joyce Correa da Silva, 19, were riding. Both men died instantly after being trapped in the rubble.
According to the police report, a witness, a friend of Raphaël and Geovanna, said that the young man was having a barbecue at home with other people, without his girlfriend. In the early hours of the morning, around 2 a.m., the suspect sent her a message because she was jealous of a woman she didn’t know who was at the event.
The friend reportedly told Geovanna that the jealousy “was completely unfounded,” given that the woman was Raphael’s childhood friend and the two had never had “anything big.” The last message sent by the suspect to her friend was: “either you solve it or I solve it”.
Shortly after, Geovanna appeared at Raphaël’s house, with her mother-in-law. The two men entered the residence, but the boy held his girlfriend in the hallway “without resorting to violence,” as stated by the witness, who concluded by telling police that the suspect wanted to enter the house to fight with the women. The couple fought, Raphael decided to take his own motorbike and go for a ride, but Geovanna and her mother-in-law followed closely behind him.
A second witness interviewed by authorities, a personal friend of Raphael and Joyce, said he was at a wine cellar, located on the street where the crime occurred, when Raphael appeared alone on a motorcycle and invited Joyce for a ride – a common occurrence between the young man and his friends at the cellar. The two were friends and had worked together some time ago, without any romantic relationship. The young man made a balloon in the street and soon after saw Geovanna’s car.
At that point, a chase began, with both vehicles traveling down the street at a high rate of speed. After about 500 meters, the witness said he heard a loud noise and saw Geovanna “pass her car over Raphael, Joyce and the motorcycle they were on.”
The suspect even tried to leave the scene, and after the crime, she went to a nearby restaurant, where another friend of Raphaël worked, and said: “go help your friend and the bitch I just killed.” Due to her dizziness, Geovanna could not go far and stopped the vehicle.
She was located by Military Police (MP) and transported to an area hospital with minor cuts. She was hospitalized and then arrested in the act. Geovanna’s detention was transformed into preventive detention, after undergoing a custody hearing.
The case was registered as intentional homicide (intentional) and bodily injury, and is being investigated by the 37th Police District (Campo Limpo).
