The wedding dress is, for many women, the most symbolic piece of the wedding and also one of the choices that generate the most anxiety during the preparations. Between passing trends, family expectations and social media references, common mistakes can compromise not only the look, but also the comfort and safety of the bride on the big day.

With over 600 dresses designed throughout her career, fashion artist Ana França highlights key mistakes that can be avoided with professional planning and advice.
The room is usually one of the most important elements of the wedding, carrying emotional, cultural and aesthetic expectations. It is precisely for this reason that it can also become a source of doubts and insecurities.
Ana França emphasizes that there are recurring errors that can compromise the result. “A poor clothing choice can affect everything from the bride’s confidence to the harmony of the event itself. That’s why every detail needs to be carefully planned in advance,” he explains.
5 mistakes not to make with your wedding dress
Choosing a dress just for fashion
According to the expert, following trends without evaluating your own style is a common mistake. “Fashion changes quickly, but wedding photos are eternal. The ideal is to look for a model that highlights the bride and reflects her personality. Trends, of course, can be integrated, but without making the dress outdated and this is a very common mistake,” he advises.
Ignoring body shape
Ana França emphasizes that each body has unique characteristics and that the dress should highlight the most beautiful aspects of each bride. “Sometimes a cut that looks perfect on one celebrity may not flatter someone else. The secret lies in aligning dreams and body reality, which is why customization is key,” he says.
Not taking into account the environment and the weather
Another point often overlooked is the context of the marriage. Very bulky dresses may not be practical for outdoor ceremonies, just as heavy fabrics are not suitable for weddings on the beach or in areas with warm climates.
“The dress must interact with the environment. You must understand how to wear it to be as comfortable as possible for the bride. This guarantees comfort and aesthetic harmony,” he emphasizes.
Not respecting the adjustment schedule
The designer reinforces the importance of following the test schedule defined by the studio. According to her, the need for adjustments varies depending on the dress model and with possible variations in the customer’s measurements. The definition of the test start date is therefore individual and depends on each process.
“The ideal is to respect the schedule. The studio knows whether it is better to start the tests close to the date of use or more in advance,” he observes. “Trying to change this schedule, reflected by the experiences of other brides, often creates stress and unnecessary changes. It may be necessary to re-measure multiple times, which can compromise the fit, giving the appearance of a worn-out dress,” he adds.
A wedding can last for hours, between ceremony, reception and party. Therefore, thinking only about aesthetics can create problems.
“I’ve seen brides who could barely move in their dress, but beauty must come with comfort, so the bride can enjoy her big day. Is it worth looking beautiful at the cost of limiting yourself to the happiest day of your life? I don’t think so,” he muses.
The importance of professional advice
For Ana França, having the support of a specialized and experienced professional is the best way to avoid mistakes.
“The technical look helps to align desire, style and practicality. The ideal dress is the one in which the bride feels unique and confident. Therefore, having good advice helps to refine the ideas and make the day much more pleasant in the end,” he concludes.
