Nostalgia is in fashion. And no one knew how to read this trend like the Duffer brothers, who detected that today’s most commercial culture is largely a hodgepodge of the greatest hits of the seventies and eighties. Any episode of Stranger Thingsespecially the first two seasons, to see it: show a random sequence and you will see that it is built on an 80s film that you have seen a thousand times. We will see how many tributes await us in volume 2 of the last season of Stranger Thingswhich arrives on Netflix Spain on December 26.
In the meantime, you can opt for two ways to quench Hawkins’ thirst: either watch the films and series (or read the books) that cement the construction of The Duffer brothers or resort to series which plunge into the path blazed by Stranger Things. One of them is Paper girlsthe premiere of which took place in Main video just as the fourth season of Stranger Things aired its last episode. It was the beginning of a drought of strange things that would last nearly four years.
What is “Paper Girls” about?
Paper girls knows how to start a series so that those nostalgic for the 80s will open their eyes. In fact, he uses the same strategy as Stranger Things in the second season: that the first episode takes place shortly before Halloween. The time of year when children ask for candy and adults sit on the sofa to reconnect with their old celluloid friends: monsters from Universal, Hammer, Carpenter or Spielberg.
This series was not planned, as Stranger Thingsbecome serious series (do you remember when in Stranger Things were there any comedic gags? When in Stranger Things Were we laughing?) from several seasons. He instead opted for eight episodes and it’s over. The series takes place in a very Spielbergian place: the suburbs (understood in its Anglo-Saxon sense) of a city, populated by white twin houses with a large garden at the entrance on which, every morning, a newspaper rains.
Whoever throws it is the protagonist of Paper girlsa newcomer to the neighborhood who, to earn her salary, becomes a delivery girl. As a gang, the protagonist and her friends distribute newspapers until they are harassed by a group of boys. While pursuing them, they reach the basement of a house where there is a time machine, which they of course activate.
