An 83-year-old cyclist died this Saturday morning (6) after being hit by a bucket truck on Rua José Barin, in the Salgado Filho neighborhood, in Santa Maria. The collision occurred near the roundabout that provides access to the Perimetral Dom Ivo Lorscheiter, a point with a large number of vehicles.

Teams from the Military Brigade, the Civil Police and the General Institute of Expertise (IGP) were called and remained on site to carry out technical assessments. Until 10:20 a.m., the section remained isolated, with vehicle traffic only authorized on half a lane while teams intervened on the incident.
The truck driver took a breathalyzer test, which came back negative for alcohol consumption. He was sent to make a statement, standard procedure in situations involving traffic fatalities.
The Santa Maria Homicide and Personal Protection Police Station (DPHPP) will be responsible for the investigation, which is expected to clarify the causes of the accident and the dynamics of the collision.
