
Laura Crane could break the record for the biggest wave ever surfed by a woman, a feat currently held by Brazilian Maya Gabeira. The current mark is 22.4 meters (73.5 feet), reached by the surfer in 2020. The British surfer rode a giant wave in Nazaré, Portugal, and could surpass the number achieved by Gabeira.

The Briton’s feat occurred this weekend, during the Big Wave Challenge. The record will be analyzed by Guinness World Records to find out the exact size of the wave.

“It’s just crazy, a totally transcendental experience. You move very fast and you have to trust your training, your body, your mind and the ocean,” Laura told the Times.
Crane also says the biggest challenge was controlling fear by looking back and visualizing the size of the wave. “You have to control that and be as present as possible,” he said.
