Wollstudio designed a renovation in an apartment in the Palacio de los Patos reinterprets French academicism with fine materials, integrated greenery and individual lighting. A project that aims to create a warm urban accommodationconnected to nature and designed for the everyday life of a family.
Designed for a couple with a childthis project started with Everyday use as the axis of all decisions. The clients were already familiar with the studio’s work – they had seen a previous renovation in the same building – and had a clear disposition.
“We always start from a list of specific needs: how many people live, what activities take place every day,” they explain Architects Francisco Pailhé and Eugenia Carugno Durán. Since the original system worked well, the decision was made Respect the existing structure and work in terms of design, materials and lighting.
Much of the furniture was specially designed, including: Tableware that adds the finishing touch to the room and plants are integrated into its structure.
The starting point was to abandon the original white of the apartment and transform the entire house into a unified design more enveloping palette.
The study worked on this Walls in mink tones and sand-colored microcementspecially selected to accompany this climate. “We wanted to put one together warm boxwhich was the basis of Mood board. From there, we started balancing it with other materials and giving it strength,” they say.
He Microcement appears in both Kitchen like in the bathroomwhich visually unifies the rooms and conveys the contrast through the furnishings.
The lighting proposal was conceived from the beginning of the project and not as a final phase. “We always work together three layers: general lighting, hidden indirect lighting and special lights”they explain.
Many of the artifacts were designed by Wollstudio. “It’s a small detail within the work, but that Chrome dining room lamp Later it appears in other places, such as on the stairs in Dante’s room. The idea is that the palette brings everything together.”
“From the beginning We knew the stone would play an important role in the house: in TableIn Coatingsin some important plans. In the original palette we imagined it would be brighter, but when we viewed the granites and coatings with the customer, we realized that a black stone which he really liked. And this back and forth is interesting because such a change also opens up an opportunity: “Black has a lot of power”they say.
“Of course, when such a predominant color appears, we have to return to the project. Not everything that was supposed to be gray could become black, so decisions had to be reviewed.” Rebalance the palette and adjust the materials so that everything fits together. Today we are very happy with the result.”
This space was not left as just circulation. In the area leading to the bedrooms is the study covered the passage arch with black stonea gesture that marks that Boundary between public and private without the need for doors. The change of material acts as a signal: From then on the house slows down.
In this type of building, it is often the case that long paths and large areas give the impression that they only serve to connect rooms. “They are very generous plants with many meters that are normally relegated to circulation. In this project We strive for this section to play a clear role and contribute to the overall functioning of the house,” they explain.
To support this idea, the study He lowered the ceiling and added a round skylight that illuminates a sector without windows. “It works almost like an artificial sun. It is a way to bring light and accompany the journey and mark that we are entering the private space of the house,” they say.
The studio designed a room for the couple’s son Recreation room. “The idea was to put one together “A kind of tree house”they say.
