“This can’t happen, it can’t happen in Bogotá,” a woman is heard saying in the background at the beginning of the first of the videos shared by Bogotá House of Representatives candidate Daniel Monroy on Tuesday night, December 2, 2025.
The lawyer who joined the historic charter list for the 2026 parliamentary elections said that in his case, he was a victim of a group of vehicle thieves when he… He drove a colleague from his campaign team to the Madelena neighborhood (Ciudad Bolivar, south of the capital).

The incident occurred hours after the murder of the young man from Barranquilla, Jean-Claude Bussard (on a street in the town of Osaquin, north of Bogotá, around two o’clock in the afternoon).
In the first recording that Monroy published, he appears upset, because he recorded the events only minutes after what happened.
“I was just the victim of an attempted robbery in the Madelena neighborhood. They were leaving someone here in the apartment complex. “Four people in a black polarized sailboat (model).”
The post is accompanied by this message: “They just tried to steal my car in the Madelena neighborhood. I’m in shock! The guy pointed a gun at me, my reaction was to throw the key away, and they stole my bag and my cell phone.”
Already in the second part of the first video, Monroy added about the criminals who “They were trying to rob me. They took some bags and cell phones.”
Regarding what happened, the candidate for a seat in the House of Representatives from Bogota explained that he “just left a party meeting.”
“I was leaving someone at his house and they robbed us. What is happening in the city of Bogotá is terrible right now. This moment is terrible.”Monroy concluded in his first video.
In the second recording, which Daniel Monroy shared on his account
“They tried to steal our car, and I’m already with the police.” says the young woman who was with the lawyer, as one of the uniformed men asked Monroy if he had already managed to recover the car key (because, as he explained in his letter in X, he had thrown it out of fear).

“Yes, I found the key. When I saw the car, the first thing I did was get out, throw the key away and the man dragged me there,” Monroy explained, at which point his partner interrupted him to continue the story: “I was the one who was caught the most.”
The lawyer added: “Because they arrested her here in the car.” Another victim of this new state of insecurity in Bogota added: “They caught me with him. They pulled me by my hair, and then I dropped my bag. I couldn’t get out of the car anymore.”
Monroy received several messages of support on the networks from some users, and even in certain comments previous cases of theft in the city were recorded.
This case is added to the one reported on social networks by journalist and presenter Ana María Velez, who on the night of Wednesday, November 19, was the victim of criminals of the so-called “Los del carro rojo” criminal organization, dedicated to the theft of luxury trucks.

Vélez spoke with Infobae Colombia and expressed that the seven detainees left behind by the operation carried out by the Bogotá Metropolitan Police, the results of which were announced by City Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán in a press conference on November 25, 2025, are confident that their freedom can soon be regained.
The theft occurred at night in the Normandy neighborhood of the town of Engativa, amid a wave of attacks on luxury cars, which put the capital’s authorities on alert, immediately after she arrived at her romantic partner’s home.
Seven people who appear to be linked to the criminal organization remain detained as a result of the operation.
Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán stated on social networks that the judge issued an internal measure against those who were arrestedAlthough the decision faces concerns following Velez’s testimony.

All because the journalist had to identify the detainees along with four other victims, and she described that during the process she received signals and threats, in addition to hearing comments about the interference of an alleged boss who wanted to provide legal assistance.
“They said their boss would give them the lawyer who would always help them get free.”Velez stated in his statement published in X.
The broadcaster and communicator noted that the participants were laughing and maintaining a security stance in the event of a possible return to the streets.
Velez described the atmosphere of intimidation that prevailed at the time of his identification: “They saw me right away. They pointed at me, drew a weapon in their hands and threatened me and one of the other victims who were present.”
She finally added that one of the people who shared the transport with the detainees after their arrest heard comments about the peace of mind due to the promise of outside legal assistance and the possibility of records of previous releases, raising the broadcaster’s suspicions.
That’s why Velez asked Galán: “My request to Mayor Galán is to strengthen security throughout the city, double the number of police officers on the streets, at night, carry out permanent patrols, and more.”. In other words, they actually have to triple the number of people working at night in the city of Bogotá to prevent more of these thefts from being committed or so they can be caught red-handed, in a way that they can be prosecuted in a more flexible and quicker way and they can dismantle the organizations.
