The short novel “Strictly Monitored Trains” by Bohumil Hrabal (1914-1997), initially published in 1965, has just been published in Brazil, with a direct translation from Czech by Luís Carlos Cabral. It is his best-known book, largely thanks to the film adaptation released in 1966 and which won the Oscar for best foreign film in 1968. The book also contains a very comprehensive biographical essay on the author, written by árka Grauová, professor at Palacký University, in the Czech Republic, produced especially for the Brazilian edition.
