A collision between a truck and a student bus results in the death of a teacher and a number of injured in RS

An accident between a school truck and a truck on the road BR-386, in Soledad (RS), killed a teacher and injured 14 others, including eight in serious condition.

A serious accident involving a truck and a minivan transporting students and teachers from a school in Irai killed one person and injured 14 others on Friday night, the 5th of this month, on BR-386, in Soledad, in the north of the state. The rear-end collision occurred at approximately 10:56 p.m., at kilometer 237, and led to the complete closure of the highway for several hours. Traffic was not restored until around 5 a.m. on Saturday.

The school group was returning from a trip to a water park in Capau da Canoa, on the north coast.

According to the Federal Highway Police (PRF), the accident involving the truck could have resulted in a mechanical failure, causing the driver to stop and get out of the vehicle to indicate the problem, but before he could complete the procedure, the truck ended up violently crashing into the rear of the vehicle. The truck driver was not injured.

The only confirmed death is that of a teacher who was taken to Hospital de Caridad Free Clemente in Soledad, but she did not survive her injuries.

Of the 14 injured, eight are in serious condition – three of them teachers and five teenagers who were on a trip. Everyone was rescued by emergency teams and transported to hospitals in the area.
