CD Tenerife hosts SD Ponferradina this Saturday (5:30 p.m.), during the duel of the 17th day of Group I of the First Federation. This will be the eleventh visit of the Bercian team to the island (tenth in the national competition) since its first confrontation during the 2006-2007 season. The general assessment is favorable to the Tenerife team.
Positive statistics. Of the nine #TenerifePonferradina contested in the League – all in the Second Division – the representative won four times and added a point in three others, conceding only two narrow defeats in 2007 and 2015, this being Álvaro Cervera’s last home game during his first stage as manager on the island. On the other hand, the duel for promotion to professional football in 2011-2012 fell on the side of the visitors (1-2, Kiko Ratón), who had already started with an advantage from the first leg (1-0).
The first confrontation. This happened in El Toralín on the 15th day of the 2006-2007 Second Division, with a misstep by the team led by Bernd Krauss (1-0), who, on December 2, 2006, led his last match in blue and white. In the second round, during the first duel at the Stadium (date 36) played on May 6, 2007 with Casuco on the local bench, the result was once again in favor of Ponferradina (0-1).
Strong first victory. After the draw in second #TenerifePonferradina achieved in the penultimate match of the 2010-2011 season (1-1, Nino), with the last goal of the historic Almería striker with CD Tenerife, and with a blue and white emblem like David Amaral – the only coach with a common past – who lives for the last time from the bench a match at the Stadium, the first favorable result came in the third match of the League, during the 31st day of the 2013-2014 financial year. On March 23, 2014, Álvaro Cervera’s team won by a resounding 5-0 thanks to Ayoze Pérez’s hat-trick, as well as successes from Aridane and Edgar.
Three victories in a year and a half. After falling to 14-15 (0-1) and tying at 15-16 (1-1, Choco Lozano), the blue and white team won three times in a row in just under a year and six months. He did it for the first time on March 8, 2020 during the 31st day of the 19-20 campaign (1-0, Šipčić), in the match before the Covid-19 break. Less than a year later (February 13, 2021), without an audience in the stands due to the pandemic, Tenerife won again (1-0, Germán Valera) on the 25th day on 20-21; and a few months later (September 4, 2021) he did the same in the fourth match of 21-22 (2-0, Elady and Álex Muñoz). Already in 2022-2023 (23rd day), they last saw each other tied without a goal on January 14, 2023.
Carlos Ruiz. The historic blue and white defender, ranked among the 10 best thanks to his 286 commitments between 2013 and 2023, and currently director of the Base Football Zone of the entity, arrived at the club in the summer of 2013 from SD Ponferradina. Before playing at home to Heliodoro Rodríguez López, he was promoted to the Santa Cruz stadium with the Castilian-Leonese team, in the aforementioned playoff match of the 2011-2012 season. In the same match, another former blue and white player, Acorán Barrera from Tenerife, also made the category jump.
Other familiar faces. Nacho Gil, now in the ranks of Tenerife, played a season for SD Ponferradina (19-20); Otherwise, Alex Mula and Andoni López, blue and white respectively in the second half of 17-18 and in the first part of 22-23, will visit the island as visitors. For their part, a long list of players such as Sirvent, Aira, Álvaro Iglesias, Juan Manuel Álvarez, Omar Ramos, Gaizka Saizar, Bellvís, Natalio, Juanjo Expósito, Cristian García, Javi Lara, Longo, Camille, Pablo Larrea and José Amo have a common past.
Scorers. Ayoze Pérez, with three goals, is the only blue and white player to have scored multiple times in #TenerifePonferradina. Likewise, successfully and classified by seniority, the list is completed by Nino, Aridane, Edgar, Choco Lozano, Šipčić, Germán Valera, Elady and Álex Muñoz.
