
The Civil Guard dismantled a criminal organization in Navalmoral de la Mata (Cáceres) that scammed to people in a situation of vulnerability through so-called spiritual activity, thanks to which the network experienced an increase in assets of around 200,000 euros in one year.
The police operation, called ‘Mattress’, resulted in the arrest of four members of the grouptwo men and two women, who offered spiritual accompaniment to their victims, numbering around a dozen. The detainees are accused of crimes of scam, illicit association, coercion, against workers’ rights and money laundering, reports the Cáceres command in a press release.
The investigation began a few months ago when the Civil Guard became aware of the possible existence of a criminal group which recruited people in particularly vulnerable situations, mainly from South and Central American countries, to whom it offered a course spiritual accompaniment to overcome adverse situations. The victims were subjected to psychological and emotional manipulation to obtain financial contributions as compulsory contributions.
So they were making recurring payments, in many cases through Bizum or other direct contribution systems, which would have generated significant income. economic volume presumably intended to support the activity of the criminal organization and to provide personal benefits to its leaders. Under the direction of the Court of First Instance Place No. 3 of Navalmoral de la Mata and the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Cáceres, through its Territorial Section of Plasencia (Cáceres), on November 11, six records in different propertiesbetween homes and premises, linked to the criminal organization.
As part of the operation, four people were arrested and species (in addition to money blocked in bank accounts), mobile terminals, computer equipment and extensive documentation relating to the alleged criminal activity.
