For everything Cuban Visiting a supermarket or convenience store is quite a culture shock. It’s for those who live on the island and suffer from food shortages, sometimes even rationing, and frequent scenes of empty shelves. … and this is also true for those who end up living abroad and discover business establishments outside their country without supply problems or price gouging.
It is for this reason that it has become common for Cubans who emigrate, for example to Spain, to end up explaining in videos the new reality that they discover far from their country of origin. People here try dishes that are common, but in Cuba they are delicacies or simply stroll through the supermarket aisles full versions go viral every now and then. Now it has happened again.
In this case it was Darlyn Moralesa Cuban who counts in herself TikTok (@darlynmoralesactriz) his daily life in Spain, which triumphs with another video from a supermarket. She lives in Madrid with her sister and this Christmas her mother was here and, like every Cuban, she was amazed by a thousand aspects. One of them, what does an establishment look like? Alcampo: The video in which you see your first time there has already reached 130,000 views.
“I’m dizzy”
“I’m in Alcampo with my mother and the expression is ‘My God!’ watching everything,” Darlyn begins recording from the hallways of one of these locations. The mother appears and says that what she sees is “very big”. “I have no words,” says the woman, who jokes that she is “dizzy” and assures that “I don’t see anything” of such variety as the supermarket.
Darlyn specifically takes his mother to the Christmas section because she loves this time of year. “I have to take these flowers,” the woman shouts as she walks past a row of Easter flowers of all sizes and colors. “I’m dizzy, many things… too much for my mind“, he continues saying as they head towards the chocolate aisle.
Along the way, the parent can’t help but sigh at “the amount of perfumes, the amount of things to clean the bathroom…” and stops to look, fascinated, at the gift boxes containing colognes and personal hygiene products. A few moments later, she is in the fashion section that this Alcampo has, she is delighted with a purple sweater and exclaims that “no matter how cold it comes, it doesn’t matter, it no one is cold here“.
“You give this nougat to someone and it’s the biggest thing you brought back from Spain», remarks the mother, showing a product which is in reality just a simple bar of milk chocolate, more than usual here but a luxury for a Cuban. The woman is always amazed by the chocolates but also simply by the boxes that carry them.
However, the woman ends up admitting that “it gives a ‘pressure’ (pressure) in the chest” and she fears that she will end up crying with emotion. “People will think it’s my cuteness, but it’s not cute,” she says, insisting that “It gives me pain, “oppression” here to see so many things…” “If you haven’t been able to travel, you don’t know what life is,” says the woman, who continues her reflection by assuring that she misses her daughters a lot but that she feels very happy that they live in Spain.
Already in the last part of the video he is amazed by the section of wholesale purchase and also with the size of the red and green peppers sold here or with the “beauty” of other vegetables. The video received hundreds of comments and many regretted that Cubans faced these difficulties in their country of origin.
