The scandal of alleged situations of sexual harassment within the Socialist Party it’s just beginning. Ferraz’s inaction in the face of the “Salazar case”, which gave rise to a proliferation of complaints in the media, … Since a similar case became known in Torremolinos (Málaga) and later in Lugo, several women who say they experienced the same thing have considered following this path and denouncing the alleged sexist attitudes.
As ABC has learned, a dozen women across the country are ready to “end the impunity” with which “some have acted for a long time.” The passage of other women who suffered the same thing, they say, “gave them power”. And they maintain that if they have not done so until now, as some with whom this newspaper was able to speak have admitted, it is because “there was the fear of reprisals or of not being believed”.
In the majority of cases, the harassment situations that these women suffered were experienced in the workplace, with a dominant position of power of the alleged harasser over the victims, party workers, institutions or with public officials who depended on or depended on them.
The sources consulted by this media report four specific men occupying positions in two territorial federations or in the Federal Executive. One of them brings together a very similar story in different women. In all cases, the events would have occurred within the last decade and some “continued over time”. The reported episodes range from “racy messages, indecent propositions in and out of the workplace, promises of position in exchange for sex and even videos with explicit sexual content.”
Although in all cases they have not made it known to their respective federations or groups, indicate the sources consulted by ABC, there are internal complaints like those filed against Salazar, the former leader of the party in Torremolinos or the president of the Provincial Council of Lugo, in which “nothing was done, they were left in a drawer”. There are those who chose to carry him on their backs but “everyone knew what was happening and he was protected”.
Classic feminism raises its voice
Still shocked by the content of the complaints against Paco Salazar revealed last week, the classic feminism that helped Pedro Sánchez gain power has decided to raise its voice so that they “pay for the damage they have caused to women and to the party.” “These type of characters should never have represented the initials of the PSOE,” says one of these women, visibly angry, who regrets “the lack of protection they had from above during all this time”.
“It’s not one case, nor two; There are already too many cases over the same period”
Classic socialist feminism, faced with a part of the party which defends an idea of women very different from the one it defends, says “not understanding” that this has been “allowed” to happen consistently over time. “It’s not one case, nor two; There are already too many cases, in the same period,” says a source this newspaper spoke to. He also adds, by way of rejection, the “disgust” they feel that “these guys came to the 8M protests and we hugged them thinking they were really defending our cause.”
Confident that this would end with Salazar and Antonio Navarro, the party leader in Torremolinos, each new case and the details that become known resemble “a kick” to the values of the Socialist Party. “It makes you want to cry,” says one of these women, when she remembers “all that we fought and suffered to get here, so that now a few gentlemen benefiting from institutional protection are coming to destroy everything we have conquered.” Everyone agrees that “no one took any responsibility, no one asked for forgiveness.” And they point to the party leadership, with Pedro Sánchez, María Jesús Montero, Rebeca Torró and Pilar Bernabé, as the main culprits of the “mismanagement” of the “Salazar case”.
