This Sunday, a large fire broke out in a semi-rural area of La Plata county, putting local authorities on alert. The spread of flames across large swathes of grassland was a cause for concern, particularly given the possibility that the event was intentionally caused.
The incident occurred in the area between streets 167 and 52 in the town of Lisandro Olmos, where the fire spread quickly and required emergency intervention. After the alert was received, intervention teams were mobilized to prevent the incident from spreading to populated areas.
Volunteer firefighters from Olmos and Los Hornos worked on site along with municipal security personnel who coordinated control tasks for several hours. Eventually, they managed to completely contain the active outbreaks and avoid further consequences.
After the work was completed, it was confirmed that there were no injuries or affected houses. However, an assessment has been initiated to determine the environmental impact caused by the fire on the land affected by the flames.
At the same time, the authorities are pressing ahead with the preparation of reports to determine how the fire started. Among the hypotheses analyzed is the possibility of intentional burnings related to possible attempts to illegally occupy land, a recurring problem in areas with similar characteristics within the district.
