A fire hit an apartment on the 4th floor, leaving two people injured and affecting seven other units in the building.
The fire followed by an explosion recorded on Monday afternoon (22) in an apartment located on the 4th floor of Tower 22 of Condomínio Morada do Vale, in Gravataí, in the Porto Alegre metropolitan region, was probably caused by the use of a highly flammable product when waterproofing a sofa. The information was confirmed by the Gravataí firefighters, who responded to the incident with the support of the Cachoeirinha teams.
According to the company, the fire started in the apartment where the service was performed and eventually spread, affecting seven other units in the building. The condominium is located on the border between the municipalities of Gravataí and Cachoeirinha. Firefighters were called around 4:45 p.m. and were able to bring the flames under control around 6:20 p.m.
The resident of the property where the fire broke out suffered burns to her body. A neighbor on the upper floor suffered smoke inhalation during the incident. Both were rescued by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) and taken to medical care.
According to information released by the Gravataí Fire Department, the injured resident suffered burns to approximately 50% of her body. However, to date, the extent of the injuries has not been officially confirmed by the authorities and the victim’s condition continues to be monitored by the medical team.
The causes of the incident will still be the subject of a forensic investigation, which should be carried out in the coming days. Additionally, the fire department has requested a structural report to assess whether the building presents safe living conditions after the fire damage.
