Former state deputy Marcell Moraes (PSDB-BA) was arrested on Friday evening (12) in a luxury condominium in the Comércio neighborhood, Salvador. He is suspected of having threatened his girlfriend, verbally assaulting her, damaging the victim’s vehicle and throwing her cell phone on the beach.
The arrest occurred after military police were called to investigate a report of violence at the condominium. The former deputy was arrested and taken to the Specialized Women’s Assistance Commission.
According to the Civil Police, Moraes was accused of crimes of threat, injury and damage in the context of domestic violence.
He made a statement to police, was released after posting bail and will respond freely in the case. Civil police say they will continue their investigation into this matter.
In a video posted on a social network, Marcell Moraes said he had an argument with his girlfriend, with whom he had been in a relationship for four years, but denied any aggression or threats.
“There was no aggression, just disagreements and insults,” said the former MP, emphasizing that both broke off the relationship.
Marcell Moraes served as State Deputy of Bahia between 2015 and 2020, with animal protection as his main objective. Previously, he was a municipal councilor in Salvador.
In 2020, his mandate as deputy was revoked by the TSE (Higher Electoral Court), which determined his ineligibility for eight years.
He was convicted of abuse of economic power and early election propaganda after organizing events with free veterinary care in municipalities across the state.
