The graduation party, which ended in confusion because of funk music, whose lyrics allude to a rape situation inside a helicopter, comes from a school with a strong Catholic tradition. Madre de Deus will receive a Christmas mass celebrated by the Parish of Boa Viagem in one of its three units on December 20, and its social networks highlight various religious activities with students throughout the year, such as the celebration of dates dedicated to saints, such as Nossa Senhora Aparecida and Nossa Senhora da Conceição.

The school claims it did not organize the party which ended in confusion. It is common for this to be the responsibility of the final committees formed by the students themselves with the consent and sponsorship of those responsible. The event held at the Classic Hall, Olinda, ended after the father of one of the students interrupted the performance of the DJ, who played the song “Helicóptero”, by DJ Guuga featuring MC Pierre.

The lyrics tell of a situation in which two men are in a helicopter and demand that a woman have sex with them. “Either you try or I’ll throw you out here,” says a snippet of the song, which treats the victim like a “bitch.” “Hey, Pierre, tell that son of a bitch that I’m not joking, no. The sea is over there, we’re here and it thinks we’re joking,” said the funk.
In a video posted to social media, a student’s mother appears on stage during the mix-up, saying the song advocates prostitution and is inappropriate for teenagers. “Guys, you advocate prostitution. You are children. Do you think it’s true? If you don’t give in, are you going to throw the girl up there?” asks the mother of a student.
Other recordings show people crowded between tables and chairs in the party room, glasses flying, pushing and shoving each other. It is also possible to see students trying to break up the fight.
The collaboration between DJ Guuga and MC Pierre was launched in 2019 and has more than 51 million views on YouTube, where there is an “explicit lyrics” warning in the video information. On Spotify, the song has already exceeded 66 million reproductions. In 2023, the same artists released “Helicóptero 2”, which has accumulated over 20 million views combined on both platforms.
The school declined to comment on the matter. Comments on the school’s social media posts are limited and its website is offline at the time of publishing this article.
In addition to regular education, the school promotes religious-focused programming, with visits to the New Jerusalem Theater, in Pernambuco, which is home to a picturesque town that replicates Jerusalem, the scene of the central events in the life of Jesus Christ. They also share images of the students’ first Eucharist and other celebrations such as Thanksgiving Mass and Corpus Christi.
