A group of elderly people gathered in front of the parish that was to accommodate 15 displaced migrants at the B9 institute in Badalona to prevent the accommodation from taking place. The Vecinos issued racist proclamations against migrants and prevented social entities from downloading some of the material. Given the tense situation, the entities decided to suspend protection, for security reasons, according to TV3.
The government did not reveal the location of the place, but first in the middle of the afternoon, but then a larger group, as explained by Carles Sagués of Badalona Acull, concentrated in front of the Mare de Déu parish of Montserrat, in the Sant Crist neighborhood. “They shouted things like ‘We don’t want black people here, they don’t have diseases,'” she added, deploring the intransigent attitude of this group of animals.
But the concentrates, arriving around 200 seconds on Catalan television, were prevented from arriving in a Cruz Roja van with the materials so that migrants could spend the night in the parish, such as mattresses. Only entities were able to download part of the material.
The mayor of Badalona, Xavier García Albiol, was present on site and tried to mediate with the elderly, asking them to allow the migrants to stay in the parish this evening and to begin negotiations this month with the Department of Social Rights to find a solution and an alternative space.
The parish must accommodate 15 of the 200 migrants displaced a week ago in the former B9 institute, which has been for several days at the foot of the C-31 bridge, enduring the rain and the cold. Faced with the refusal of the mayor of Badalona to give a cobijo to the migrants, the Generalitat and the social entities agreed on an emergency solution, which consisted of housing these fifteen people in the parish, with only room to sleep. Other emigrants were hosted by volunteer families.
Cáritas explained this Sunday that the people who spent the night in the parish were chosen according to a criterion of “particular vulnerability”. In the system, Cáritas, Sant Joan de Déu Serveis Socials and the Fundació Llegat Roca i Pi are strong. During the day, guests can use the showers and laundry facilities at Centro Diurno Folre, which serves people without staying at home. The mayor of Albiol has closed the only public center for synthetic people. In addition, Cáritas is responsible for housing five people from B9 in guest houses for a month, while waiting to find new spaces.
