The internal crisis in the Liberal Party recorded a new and chaotic episode on Tuesday, December 9, following the statements made by the representative of the Chamber, Juan Carlos Losada: he described as “absolutely shameful” the Senate list drawn up by the leadership of the municipality for the elections of March 8, 2026. In a message shared on social networks, Losada directed his criticism directly at the former president and current director of the party, César Gaviria.
Lozada, which ranks 22nd in the ranking presented by this group for the upcoming competitionIn his bid to move from the House of Representatives to the Senate, he accused the former President of the Republic of supporting candidacies linked to controversial political clans and judicial scandals. This was expressed in a publication on his X-profile, in which he spoke in detail about what would happen within the representation.

“The Liberal Party’s list for the Senate is absolutely disgraceful. A list of corrupt, anti-rights clans allied with paramilitarism and drug trafficking“Explained Losada in his statement, reaffirming the seriousness of the background of those at the top of the list. And he explained in this kind of reflection that “six of the first ten positions on the list had connections to parapolitics through allies or family members.”

Likewise, he added that of all the clans to which Gaviria gave consent, a total of 109 years were in prison and more than 200 years were disabled. Among the cases he considered symbolic were Losada mentioned Richard Aguilar, who is number three on the listwho served as governor of Santander between 2012 and 2015 amid scandals and later served as senator between 2018 and 2021; when he was arrested by the CTI.
“He was arrested for conspiracy to commit a crime as a Senator for Radical Change.“He resigned from his seat to evade justice and the only reason he is not in prison is because his sentence has expired,” Losada said. The congressman also pointed to the congressman’s father, Hugo Aguilar, who was convicted of alliances with paramilitaries to gain the office of governor of Santander, and his brother, Mauricio Aguilar, former governor, who had “a long list of questions about corruption.”

Fifth on the list, Losada identified Yesid Pulgar: He described him as someone who “enters a foreign body to represent corrupt former U Party senator Eduardo Pulgarwho was found guilty of offering a bribe of two hundred million pesos to a judge of the Republic.” In his complaint, the representative did not limit himself only to the names of the candidates, but also pointed out Gaviria’s behavior as director of the municipality.
“The hypocrisy of César Gaviria is so great that by day he is an opponent of the Petro government. but at night he gives his consent to the Torres clan“who were the main financiers of Petro President’s election campaign,” the congressman said. In addition, he criticized the support of Julián Bedoya’s group, led by María Eugenia Lopera, which is “deeply involved in the Risk Management Unit scandal, the worst of this government.”

As he continued his intervention, Losada expressed his decision to remain in the party to confront Gaviria and promote internal transformation. “This is not the party of my grandparents. This is not the party that they wanted to inherit from me. That is why I have decided to stay to face César Gaviria and take on the enormous responsibility of reforming this party from within, of deeply renewing it,” noted the representative of the Chamber, making his position clear.
For him, it is clear that the resignation of notable figures in the party has only made it easier for the former president to “take full control of it,” and for this reason he called on the militancy to oppose decisions that would harm the interests of rank-and-file members. “The true liberals of this country need to organize. Because defeating César Gaviria must be a national goal“, concluded Losada.
