The Rio-Niterói bridge was closed for approximately 1 hour this Saturday 20, after a man invaded the road on foot and climbed one of the signal gantries. Both directions of the bridge were closed around 11:45 a.m. for a rescue operation by firefighters, at gantry 3, in Reta do Cais.
According to the Operations and Resilience Center (COR-Rio), it was not until 12:45 p.m. that Rio’s leadership was let go. Five minutes later the man was kicked out. Shortly before 1 p.m., all lanes towards Niterói and Rio de Janeiro were opened to car traffic.
Due to the closure, there are congestion consequences on roads such as Linha Vermelha, Avenue Brasil, Viaduto do Gasônimo, Avenue Francisco Bicalho and Elevado Paulo de Frontin.
